Mark Amadeo, the voice of Dowling Catholic football for 45 seasons, joins the Catholic Morning Show to celebrate Iowa Catholic Radio's 50th anniversary broadcasting the program. Mark previews a Dowling defense loaded with Division I talent ahead of the season-opening Battle of West Des Moines against Valley, and reflects on how the broadcast has evolved from 1981 press-box phone jacks to today's internet and cell technology. He also shares stand-out sideline stories, favorite player interviews, and what keeps him coming back to the booth year after year.
Mark Amadeo — the voice of Dowling Catholic football and Iowa Catholic Radio's Friday morning sports update — joins Bo Bonner and Deacon Mark Campbell to celebrate a double milestone: 50 years of Iowa Catholic Radio (now broadcasting from 105.5 FM as flagship KIHS, plus seven other signals around the state) and Mark's own 45th season calling Dowling football, a run that began in 1981 after Deacon Chuck Dupree handed off the original broadcast.
Mark previews this year's Dowling squad — a stout offensive and defensive line featuring three Division I recruits, all juniors, alongside a wide-open competition at the skill positions after graduating last year's starters. The season opens next Friday, August 28, in the Battle of West Des Moines against Valley at Valley Stadium, with pregame coverage starting around 6:20 p.m. and kickoff at 7 p.m., live on the Iowa Catholic Radio Network.
Mark also looks back on 45 years in the booth — from calling games over shaky press-box phone lines in 1981 to today's internet and cell connections — and shares favorite moments from Dowling's postgame sideline interviews, a tradition Iowa Catholic Radio pioneered in 1992 as one of the first two stations in the state to do it. He previews this season's broadcast team, including color analyst and Dowling principal Matt, and sideline reporters Brian Morris and Johnny Chido, and gives a shoutout to standout senior Brady Hagen as a future interview guest. Sponsorships for the Dowling Catholic broadcasts are still available — reach out to Mike at IowaCatholicRadio.com to learn more.
