Chosen by God, Even When You Feel Unworthy: 29th Sunday Readings – Deacon Randy Kiel – 10/15/2026

Episode Summary

Deacon Randy Kiel of Christ the King Parish previews the readings for the 29th Sunday in Ordinary Time, from God's anointing of the pagan king Cyrus in Isaiah to St. Paul's reminder to the Thessalonians that they were chosen — and what being chosen means for us today.

Episode Notes

Deacon Mark Campbell and Deacon Randy Kiel of Christ the King Parish in Des Moines prepare for Sunday, October 18 — the 29th Sunday in Ordinary Time.

Deacon Randy explores:

• Isaiah 45:1, 4-6 — God's surprising word to Cyrus of Persia, a pagan king anointed to free Israel from Babylon, and the reminder that all power comes from the one true God
• 1 Thessalonians 1:1-5b — St. Paul, Silvanus, and Timothy encouraging a young church: "how you were chosen"
• How the humility of feeling "not worthy" is exactly where God's choosing begins, and why God's will is ultimately a who — Jesus Christ

The segment closes with a prayer to the Holy Spirit.
