On this episode of The Catholic Morning Show, Deacon Kelly and Maureen Stone introduce Catechesis of the Good Shepherd, the Montessori-inspired religious formation program that immerses children in Scripture, liturgy, and prayer inside a dedicated "atrium," with a new Level 1 catechist training launching this fall at St. John the Apostle in Norwalk. Colynn Black of Epiphany Parish in Mason City then shares how Fit Shepherds, a weekly men's workout-and-prayer group, is helping Catholic men build fraternity, discipleship, and a consistent spiritual life. Together, the conversations offer practical next steps for families seeking deeper faith formation for their children and for men seeking brotherhood and accountability in their walk with Christ.
Catechesis of the Good Shepherd — Deacon Kelly & Maureen Stone Deacon Kelly and Maureen Stone join the show to explain Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS), a religious formation approach rooted in Scripture, liturgy, and the educational philosophy of Maria Montessori. Rather than a textbook-based classroom, CGS uses an "atrium" — a quiet, prayerful space with hands-on materials designed for a child's developmental stage. Kelly and Maureen share moving stories of young children's relationships with Jesus, and preview a new Level 1 catechist training beginning Friday, September 11 at St. John the Apostle in Norwalk, with sessions running select weekends through February. The registration/scholarship deadline is August 25.
Fit Shepherds — Colynn Black Colynn Black of Epiphany Parish in Mason City talks about Fit Shepherds, a men's morning group that pairs a roughly 20-minute workout with prayer and fellowship — including their signature "Burpee Rosary," one burpee for every Hail Mary. What began with three guys has grown into a steady group of ten-plus men from every walk of life, building confidence, discipleship, and stronger marriages and families. Fit Shepherds meets every Thursday, 6–7 a.m., at Holy Family Church in Mason City. All ages and fitness levels are welcome — just bring workout clothes and a Bible.
