Episode Notes
It's All Souls Day — the Commemoration of All the Faithful Departed — and Deacon Mark Campbell opens a new month, a new week, and a special season of praying for the dead.
In this episode:
- All Souls Day & the Octave of All Souls (Nov. 1–8): Why the Church prays for the souls in purgatory, and how the Mass remains the principal act of charity toward the dead. Visiting a cemetery during the octave can gain a plenary indulgence for a soul in purgatory.
- Pray for the Dead with Iowa Catholic Radio: Every weekday at 7:30 a.m. through Friday, November 20, The Catholic Morning Show prays by name for listeners' deceased loved ones using the Prayer of St. Gertrude. There's no limit on names. Submit yours here: IowaCatholicRadio.com Prayer Requests
- Blessed Georgia Martyrs: On October 31, about 12,000 faithful gathered at the Savannah Convention Center as Cardinal Frank Leo, Archbishop of Toronto and papal representative, beatified Fr. Pedro de Corpa and four Franciscan companions — Spanish missionaries martyred in 1597 for upholding the sanctity of marriage. Deacon Mark suggests them as intercessors for marriages and for children and grandchildren discerning their vocation. Learn more: TheGeorgiaMartyrs.org
- Fr. Max Carson – The Nun Run (Nov. 12–15, 2026): The chaplain at St. Albert Catholic Schools in Council Bluffs and assistant vocation director for the Diocese of Des Moines invites high school and college-age women to a bus pilgrimage to the Twin Cities to visit the Pro Ecclesia Sancta Sisters, the Carmelite nuns in Lake Elmo, the Missionaries of Charity, and (hopefully) the Dominican sisters who teach at St. Agnes. 17 of 44 seats are filled. - Fr. Lawrence Carney – A Year of Reparations: What reparation is, what "vicarious reparation" means, and how St. Alphonsus Liguori, St. Joan of Arc, and Sister Marie de Saint-Pierre model it. Plus the Archconfraternity of the Holy Face and a simple daily practice anyone can start. A Year of Reparations: 365 Days of Penance and Prayer (TAN Books)
