Episode Notes

Fr. Fabian Moncada joins Bo Bonner to help listeners prepare for Sunday, October 11, the 28th Sunday in Ordinary Time, and Jesus’ parable of the wedding feast in Matthew 22:1–14. Fr. Fabian is pastor of Our Lady of the Americas Parish in Des Moines and co-host of Be Not Afraid on Iowa Catholic Radio.

In the parable, some guests ignore the king’s invitation and others react violently. Fr. Fabian calls it a friendly reminder that Sunday Mass is a celebration we’re invited to share in. The game, work, and even family time can become excuses. But the Church reminds us that the Holy Eucharist is the banquet of heaven living among us on earth, with Christ truly present.

Fr. Fabian also reflects on the “wedding garment”: the grace that lets us receive the Eucharist worthily, and that we can neglect in the rush of daily life. He shares a question one of his altar servers asked him: “Father, do you do the same thing at every Mass?” His answer was that while the Mass is one unique celebration, each time he celebrates it is a new opportunity to be renewed. When we truly encounter Jesus in the Eucharist each Sunday, we leave different from how we arrived.
