Jason Gale of TAN Books joins the Catholic Morning Show to introduce The Harmonized Gospel, which weaves Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John into one continuous, chronological account of the life of Jesus Christ. He explains how a Gospel harmony reveals the unity of Scripture and helps Catholics imitate Christ through a year of daily readings, study guides, and practices. Jason also shares why this devotional tool works for personal prayer, Bible studies, and parish small groups without replacing the four Gospels themselves.
Jason Gale, vice president of content and production at TAN Books, joins Deacon Mark Campbell to talk about The Harmonized Gospel: The Life of Christ in One Continuous Story. Rather than jumping between Gospels, readers follow Christ's life in one narrative — from the Prologue of John through the Birth, Public Ministry, Passion, Death, Resurrection, and Ascension — with margin notes identifying which Gospel each passage comes from. Some sections draw from all four Gospels within just a few paragraphs.
Jason explains why the book uses the 1941 Confraternity New Testament, translated from the Latin Vulgate in the spirit of the Douay-Rheims but without its archaic "thees" and "thous," and how the historical richness of the synoptic Gospels and the theological depth of John come together in a new way. Pointing to Thomas à Kempis' The Imitation of Christ, he describes the heart of the project: we can't imitate Christ — or live out the Eucharist we receive — if we don't know His life.
Arranged for daily devotional reading, the book includes a daily reading, a study guide, and daily practices for Christian living, making it a natural companion for Lectio Divina, Bible studies, catechists, teachers, and parish small groups. Jason also clarifies that a Gospel harmony is meant to complement, not replace, reading each of the four Gospels on its own.
