The Lord Will Provide: A Feast on the Mountain (Isaiah 25 & Philippians 4) - Deacon Randy Kiel - 10/08/2026

Episode Summary

Deacon Randy Kiel previews the readings for the Twenty-Eighth Sunday in Ordinary Time, beginning with Isaiah 25 and the Lord's rich feast on the holy mountain where death is destroyed forever. He connects Isaiah's prophecy to Abraham on Mount Moriah, "Jehovah Jireh, the Lord will provide," and Christ's victory on Calvary. Then he turns to Philippians 4, where Saint Paul learns to live in both abundance and need and declares, "I can do all things in him who strengthens me."

Episode Notes

Deacon Randy Kiel of Christ the King Parish on the south side of Des Moines joins Deacon Mark Campbell for his weekly first look at Sunday's readings, this time for the Twenty-Eighth Sunday in Ordinary Time.

In Isaiah 25, the Lord of hosts prepares a feast of rich food and choice wines for all peoples on Mount Zion and removes the veil that covers the nations, destroying death forever. Deacon Randy traces the Bible's holy mountains — Zion, Horeb, and Moriah, where God provided a ram in place of Isaac and was named "Jehovah Jireh, the Lord will provide" — all the way to Mount Calvary, where Christ conquered death and the burial shroud could not hold Him. The first reading, he says, is almost an Easter Sunday feast: a message of resurrection.

In Philippians 4, Saint Paul thanks the Philippians for standing with him in distress and reflects on living through both hunger and plenty. Deacon Randy explains that God's blessing isn't measured by the high times or by what we own, but by the gift of salvation — and that we need one another in both the lows and the highs. The reading gives us one of Scripture's best-loved verses: "I can do all things in him who strengthens me." Deacon Randy closes the segment in prayer.
